NJ Spelman Alumnae present Cabaret Blue featuring the Spelman College Jazz Ensemble!
On March 16, 2013, The Northern NJ Chapter of The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College will present Cabaret Blue, a jazz performance featuring The Spelman Jazz Ensemble. In an homage to the legendary jazz clubs that served as the back drop for the creation and performance of this innovative music, the event will be presented in a cabaret style setting at the beautiful Montclair Art Museum. The price of admission entitles all ticket holders to attend a catered pre-concert reception.
A highlight of the evening’s activities will be the presentation of the African American Classical Music Award to legendary jazz pianist McCoy Tyner. There will also be a special tribute to Joe Jennings, Director of the Spelman Jazz Ensemble, who is retiring this year.
All proceeds from Cabaret Blue go to the NJ Spelman Alumnae Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund was established in 1976 to provide financial assistance to New Jersey women attending Spelman College. Recipients possess strong academic & community service credentials and a demonstrated financial need. Awards are given annually to women from all over the state.
Reception for all ticket holders starts at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:30pm.
